About the Morgan Lake Revitalization Project

Mission

Assist the City of Poughkeepsie Department of Public Works with routine maintenance of Morgan Lake by encouraging community members to take an active role in caring for this historic, urban greenspace through park clean-ups. Organize free, family events at Morgan Lake that focus on building community and a connection to the outdoors. Promote awareness and appreciation of Morgan Lake's history through signage, publications, presentations, and talks.

Why the Morgan Lake Revitalization Project is important

The Morgan Lake Revitalization Project is important to the City of Poughkeepsie, Town of Poughkeepsie, and Dutchess County community because of its location; the lake is within the City of Poughkeepsie line, the park's open lawn, restroom, and parking lot is within the Town of Poughkeepsie line*, and the park is a trailhead for the Dutchess Rail Trail.

Since the opening of the Dutchess Rail Trail in 2009, Morgan Lake has become a more heavily trafficked park than it was in previous years. The Morgan Lake Revitalization Project was started by Joclyn Wallace in order to keep the park clean, safe, and welcoming to those arriving at the park on foot , by bike, or by car.

*Please note that while Morgan Lake Park is located within the Town of Poughkeepsie line, it is a City of Poughkeepsie park.
